Anyone can setup a fundraiser for Women's and Children's Alliance. It's quick and easy!
Domestic violence is real.
More than five years ago, Sue Newby (SueB) died while horseback riding in Eagle, Idaho. After her death, family and friends realized that SueB was most likely in an abusive marriage.
Her story truly resonated with me. It is heartbreaking to consider that some of my closest friends and loved ones might be silent victims of domestic violence.
Friends of SueB worked with the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) to honor SueB’s life and raise funds to increase awareness about domestic violence.
The SueB Memorial 5K Walk/Run has become a signature event for the WCA and marks the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Last year, nearly 400 people participated in the Walk/Run and related family events.
The 2014 SueB Memorial 5K Run/Walk takes place October 5, 2014 and features a Half-Mile Kids’ Run along the Boise Greenbelt. Thanks to a partnership with the Ada County Paramedics Association, the event has become a wonderful family day featuring live music, food trucks, a bungee trampoline, a rock-climbing wall and more.
I hope you can join me on October 5th. Details can be found on the WCA website: www.wcaboise.org
If you can't join me on October 5th, but would like to join me in making a donation, do it here. Any amount you can give will help women and children who are victims of domestic violence. One in four women are victims of domestic violence. Your friend, sister or mother may be a victim and you may not know it.
Let’s do all we can to foster healthy relationships free from domestic violence.
